Hello,

I few days ago I bought a brand new notebook acer aspire 5520g which has amd x2 turion 1.9ghz processor, nforce6 chipset, atheros wifi, nvidia ethernet, geforce 8400m, etc. I installed pardus 2007.2 succesfully. But pardus couldn't recognise my wifi and ethernet I can't connect internet, I have no luck. I checked out nvidia's site and found that I only need nforce drivers for linux. But nvidia no longer maintains open source drivers for nforce6. they say I need at least 2.6.17 kernel or newer one according to http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_nforce_1.21_la.html . It's included in newer kernels. As long as I know pardus doesn't have 2.6.17 kernel it has something older. It seems the only way I can make ethernet work is to wait newest pardus 2007.3. Or maybe soneone here can compile or find neforce6 pisi drivers for me. I need your help.

best regards
H.E.

Hello

Today I've learned a few more things. The open source driver for ethernet interface for nforce chipsets is called forcedeth. It is supposed to have forcedeth driver within any recent kernel. I still don't understand why pardus kernel couln't recognised nvidia ethernet interface.

I am asking from developers of the pardus building a pisi package of forcedeth.

regards

I think that Pardus has a 2.6.18 kernel, but still no nforce support?  Try putting a bug report in.  I've got to pull double shifts this weekend, but if I can get some free moments, I'll try to hunt some help down.  Smiley

Today I have installed a fresh pardus 2007.3-beta on my system. If we don't count halting at the end of the installation precedure, everthing went fine.

1-) Nvidia network interface has been detected and working fine :-) It wasn't detected on previous version. It seems developers took the care of forcedeth driver this time.

2-) Wireless Atheros 5007EG still doesn't detected. I have read and send a bug report to the madwifi driver team. They are very aware of the situation.it is ath_hal module which mis-detects newer 5007eg chipsets. Developer are going to release a new ath_hal soon. Until then anyone can use ndiswrapper instead which also works fine. :-(

3-) Sound works fine Smiley

thanks to developers of pardus 2007.3

regards
H.E.

Glad it worked out for you!  I lost track of what I volunteered for.   Roll Eyes
