HI,

I updated Pardus with Pisi, I think that I upgraded everything that was there to upgrade. On reboot, I get to Grub but the strangest thing happens from then on...

1. GRUB does not have an entry for a Pardus Kernel to select.

2. There is what appears to be a cursor jumping around the black GRUB screen

3. my printer starts printing out the GRUB menu page... really! I did not even know that this was possible.

can you help or get me started in the right direction ?

I have to agree, that is odd.  Do you have a live cd to boot from?  If so we can help you fix the grub menu.  Out of curiosity, did you install Pardus 2007.1 or the current release?

It was not the current release, probably 2007.0, It has been on there for months, now. I do have a liveCD

Boot with the live cd and drill down to your /boot/grub folder and the /boot/grub folder on the live cd.  Open up the menu.lst in both and see what you have.  It should look something like this:

Code:
title Pardus 2007.2 RC [2.6.18.8-85]
root (hd0,0)
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/kernel-2.6.18.8-85 root=/dev/sdb3
video=vesafb:nomtrr,pmipal,ywrap,1024x768-32@60 console=tty2
mudur=language:en resume=/dev/sdb2
initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initramfs-2.6.18.8-84

Keep in mind that the above is from the beta/first release of 2007.2.  My 2007.1 is currently being used by a friend, along with my live cd, so I don't rightfully remember what the grub should say.  You can use from Konsole:
Code:
kdesu kate menu.lst
to edit the file on your hard drive if you feel comfortable.  I've noticed a few users having this same update/boot problem, and I'm curious to see what the common factor is.  Smiley

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I mean that I have a live CD, many of them, just not Pardus... I don't know how to make the fix with the PCLinuxOS liveCD. Do you?

That should work.  Use the live cd to boot and get to your hard drive, which should be under /media or /mnt.  Then drill down to your /boot/grub/menu.lst file.  You might have to be root to edit it there too.  Anyway, if you see two entries, make sure they look the same (except the kernel entry).  I hope this has helped.

I added your entry, with the necessary changes and it still won't boot from the 85 kernel, the 83 will work. The problem happened due to Pisi updating the kernel, I think.

I am just going to reinstall , it was not that customized.

I reinstalled with the 2007.3 CD. I updated with PISI and now Pardus will not boot with the following Chainload entry in another GRUB

title Pardus
root (hd0,5)
chainloader +1

This is exactly what caused me to start the thread with the 2007.2 version.  I don't think that Pardus is making a GRUB menu.lst correction for changes made to the booting stuff after Pisi upgrades it.
