I was wondering whether the development of Pardus 2008 had meanwhile come to a point that an estimate release date can be announced.

Can we expect 2008 within one or two months from now?

Actually, we can expect it. 1 week ago, the development CD was released (ISO), about 500MB size. And it's just for developers.

I did out of curiosity however I got stuck after having seen the splash screen, I was not allowed a glimpse of 2008 on my test laptop, because when the X-server starts the screen turns black and evrything keeps silent.

We'll have to wait a bit more and be patient... Wink

update On my desktop PC I came a bit further, into graphical mode in enw COMAR installation version. There is an annoying bug here in that the cursor/mouse pointer can only be moved vertically up and down the sceren in the center, horizontal movements are not possible.

Using TAB and spacebar I worked my way through untill the partitioning part where also are some minor translation issues left.

I did not want to take the risk to go further than that point.

We still talk about a development ISO however, which means that  by mentioning these problems I encountered I do not want to blame anyone at all.

Work is still in progress and obviously 2008 is almost ready for launch....

In my case the installer got stuck at the package config stage and gave an "cannot connect to dbus" error.

May be its a virtualbox problem.

There is an annoying bug in INTEL graphic chips. As far as I know, new Xorg INTEL driver doesn't work as properly as previous one. I informed xorg maintainer about this situation ~1 week ago and he said he could look for it.

PS: It's a development CD, and don't use it as your main desktop distribution Smiley

Well, as I said before, it's not certain. We should just wait.

That would explain why i did get into graphical install mode on my AMD64 driven desktop PC and did not get into GUI on my Intel CPU driven laptop...

I still use 2007.3 as my main desktop distro ;-)

I would not advice to download and burn that ISO either, did work on my laptop, and quite contrary to install CD did not open on my AMD desktop PC.
On the laptop wireless connection coulkd not be established and the desktop itself remained black (got an error message right after the system was started.

The exact URL can be found by browsing these dirs:
