Any ideas how to stop kmix being invisible please?  I can start it from the menu, or from the command line, but then I can't see it!

System Guard shows that kmix is running, but I can't see it anywhere.  The "launch feedback" applet runs in the panel for a few seconds, then disappears

All I want to do is to increase the volume slightly, but I can't manage to do this without the interface.

Hello,

I have no problem with "KMix".

I would reinstall "kdemultimedia" and look, if "pulseaudio" is running.

Perhaps that could solve your problem.

Thanks Andreas- no luck however.

I reinstalled kdemultimedia and checked that pulseaudio is running.  Kmix tries to open its gui, but then gives up.

I'll keep googling for a solution!

Try this:
In Tasma>System>User Manager Add a new user with a mark at Groups:
   audio
   dailout
   disk
   pnp
   pnpadmin
   power
   removable
   users
   video
   wheel
(one of the above is necessary to get root privilege)
 We now have a system with two users (I will call them olduser and newuser in this post)
Check that in Tasma>System>Login Manager  the Locale Language: is US English (en_US)
To change this you have to use "Administrator Mode"
Close Tasma.
Log Out...>End Current Session and login as newuser.
As newuser start Programs>System>More Applications>File Manager - Super  User Mode
In File Manager View>Show Hidden Files and surf to /home/olduser/.kde/share/config
Open kmixrc with Kwrite and change "AllowDocking=false" in "AllowDocking=true"
Save change and restart PC.
Olduser will be logged in now.
Start Programs>Multimedia>KMix and it should appear in the systemtray.

I hope this solves the problem.

There is an easier way than the above methode:

In File Manager View>Show Hidden Files and surf to /home/........../.kde/share/config
Open kmixrc with Kwrite and change "AllowDocking=false" in "AllowDocking=true"
Start Programs>Multimedia>KMix and it should appear in the systemtray.

Thats all.
