I'm running Pardus 2008.1 with only one problem: OpenOffice displays with symbols (asterisks, triangles, stars, ...) things that should be letters. For example: when inserting something, opens a dialog box and there are no letters but symbols.

Hello waf,

Does the font problem occur on a document that you received or that you tried to create ?
If it's the former, that probably means you miss some fonts. Try to figure out which fonts are missing with package manager.
If it's the latter, what is the name of the font displayed in the "font name box" ?

Maybe the default font for your user interface is messed up. Try changing it in Tools>Options>OpenOffice.org>View. Over there tick the checkbox for 'Use system font for user interface'
