DVB-T USB Stick succsessful installed

after a long search....

i was able to install DVB-T USB Stick on pardus linux very easy by following instuctions from this page

i have a MSI DIGI VOX mini II usb stick.
other sticks with af9015 maybe also work.

Just like the other topic/thread about laptops that do well under Pardus Linux I am quite interested in TV cards (e.g. DVB-S satellite TV cards) and especially DVB-T USB sticks that fellow Pardus users use, and which of them work out-of-the-hox and which work after compiling by e.g. the manuals at linuxtv.org

I have a Freecom rev4 DVB-T usb-stick and this one is officially not yet supported in Linux (according to linuxtv.org).

I only managed one time to use it in a single and very short period I used ubuntu, but I could not reproduce it in Ubuntu or any other distro afterwards.

So if you watch television on your Pardus system whether it's satellite TV or DVB-T terrestrial digital TV: I am very interested to read your experiences and recommendations here!

hello michiel,

i have only little expirience with dvb-t. (usb stick)
the script from the linked page installs video4linux  afaik you need v4l to run dvb-t, dvb-s or dvb-c.
and adds a lot off of drivers for videocards e.g. bt8xx wich is a very old tv card.
... after  adding the firmware to the directory i run kaffeine. when kaffeine recognizes a connected dvb hardware kaffeine beganns automaticly download plugins for dvb. this maybe also will function for dvb-s.
i dont know if the system has to be online or not. than you have to do a channel scan with kaffeine and thats it. very very easy.
kaffeine is perfect for dvb!!! i prefere a preselected region for channel scan.

before i was able to run dvb-t in pardus i run it under ubuntu.
for ubuntu i found in internet a installationscript wich funktions only for an old kernel. the kernel wich is delievert with ubuntu 8.04.1. ... but after a paket-update ubuntu updates the kernel. the internetscript does not function anymore with this new kernel. maybe this happened to you?

my stick is a MSI digivox mini II V3.0 is very cheap around 23 euro and it runs very perfekt under pardus in germany.

if you want to install v4l with the script from the link of the top post you have to do:

first: install in order   "make"   and  "kernel-source" with pisi
it seems to be important that you install make at first. thats depends to a missing "Makefile" in /lib/modules/2.6.25.16-108/build  if you install otherwise (do not ask me why)
i made a reboot after install this progs (i do not know if this is neccasary)

second: install "gcc"

third: copy /bin/lsmod to /sbin/lsmod

.... then follow the introductions of the webpage.

Could the v4l part also be done with ?

seems easier to me, but whether you can still configure your specific usb stick following installating this PISI I don't know

no  i do not think that this will function. on pardus  found a libv4l -0.4xxx but this is only 40KB.
the script fom  http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hama_DVB-T_USB2_Stick
will downlaod near 50 MB. and as i understand it ist not only for dvb-t sticks but also for other multimedia cards and radio cards and webcams ....
i am absolutly satisfied with the result of this page.

i solved the problem like this:

for additional information:

1) open a console
2) login as su
3)type: pisi it make
4)type: pisi it kernel-source
5)type: cp /bin/lsmod  /sbin/lsmod
6)type: pisi it gcc

...then put in the dvb-t usb-stick and start kaffeine.
