My name is Alan. I live in  the county of Hampshire in England.  I've been using linux for about 3 years, Linspire at first, then Ubuntu. I have Pardus on my main pc and XP/Ubuntu/Debian on another and currently nothing on a third. I hasten to add, they're all pretty basic and one was given to me free of charge.

Hi Alan,

Glad to have you here and welcome!

I've never tried Linspire or Debian.

Enjoy Pardus!

Welcome Smiley
Linspire and Pardus have much in common(easy package installation, multimedia codecs). Seems that many linspire users are moving to Pardus(I was such too).

Thanks for the welcome.

@Mhmrcs

I wonder just how many Linux users there are here in the UK? I know of no one personally who is a linux user, apart from my mother and brother, both of whom I "converted". All of my friends, workmates etc., think computer = windows. Someone must be buying those Linux magazines I see on the shelves in WH Smiths...

Well, since Linux is very difficult to track even on a worldwide level, I can't even imagine what that figure would be for the UK specifically, the only person I know who uses Linux stares at me when I look into a mirror, I'm a very bad converter at any rate lol...

Hey Alan, that is how I felt about the state of Arkansas, that there are probably very few Linux users, but I was suprised one day, dropping by the local computer shoppe (I live in a small town) and the young lad that worked there knew about Linux when I mentioned I was using it, saying he uses it on a server. He even pronounced Linux correctly - I did not.    Cheesy  That makes sense, though, as he and his boss have to repair computers that are mainly Windows systems.  They know.

Im from the UK Smiley and use Linux.

I started using Linux in 2004.  I went cold Turkey and removed my Windows hard drive and installed a new one for Linux.  This way I was forced to use Linux and had no option so I could not give in and use Windows haha.

When I first started using Linux I tried to go cold turkey, and installed Ubuntu deleting everthing... but my wireless card wasn't supported then... Had to reinstall Windows, then months later after trying several Live CDs I found that Ubuntu 8.04 worked.

Hi Alan
Welcome!
Although I am a frog (please don't hold that against me), I also live in the UK. There seems to be quite a few of us in the forum.
Whereabouts in Hampshire? My girlfriend is from Winchester.

Well, you live in a lovely part of Hampshire!
She lived in Littleton (just North of Winchester) for a while.
