I get a black screen in the Gnome MPlayer section in Firefox when I select a video on the site http://www.rtl.nl/components/actueel/rtlnieuws/miMedia/2009/week09/wo_1545_vliegramp.avi_plain.xml
A right-click in the black screen and selecting Voorkeuren (Preferences) gives "GNOME MPlayer Configuration".
Different settings in GNOME MPlayer Configuration didn't solve the problem.
In Konqueror the video is shown in KMplayer. When I select in KMplayer > Play with Xine, it is not a problem in Konqueror.
In Ubuntu with FF+Totem browserplugin it is also no problem.
Anybody any idea how to solve this problem in FF? Huh?

I think your bug-report is too early.
I still have to do some more investigations.
It can be caused by a script on http://www.rtl.nl/actueel/rtlnieuws/home/
You can test the "top video's" on this site.
Maybe it is caused by the useragent values in FF.
I know that isn't a problem in Ubuntu.
At this moment I am testing this in openSUSE (so far without success).
Then I will test it in Kubuntu.
And maybe I get some more ideas ?
And after all of this, it is time for bug-report.

I think, the Bug-Report is not to early, because I tested the "top video`s" and the same problem in FF and Opera. Shocked

If you need silverlight, you need moonlight and moonshine instead.
Look here: http://www.mono-project.com/Moonlight
and here
http://abock.org/moonshine/
You can then blame Novell and MS.

If you need silverlight .........
It is not a problem in Konqueror, it is a problem in FF.
It doesn't hurt to try to get is running with moonlight.

As far as I was concerned, I needed both add ons. Monnlight on its own did not do anything. There is also a test page on moonshine to held you with your set up.

Your feedback is very much appreciated. Cheesy
Until this moment I didn't see/hear that, apart from Ubuntu, http://www.rtl.nl/actueel/rtlnieuws/home/ is working in FF.

This is quite weird.

I can confirm both observations: the AVI works in Konqueror but in Frefox it is stated you need Silverlight.

I had already Moonlight installed, but in the current version it only supports Silverlight 1.0. Since a lot of sites use Silverlight 2.0 we have to wait about half a year (or less), untill Moonlight 2.0 is released.

Now when I try another site, related to RTL (Dutch First Division soccer):

http://www.jupilerleague.nl/

I get the buuton that I need Silverlight, and once I click that window I am referred to a page that "Microsoft Silverlight may not be supported on your computer's hardware or operating system.", meaning this requires Silverlight 2.0 support.

Now I was wondering why Konqueror comes up with the movie nevertheless in the first example (flight crash avi), whereas in the case of the Jupiler League site both browsers demand Silverlight/Moonlight.

BTW I was not familiar with Moonshine (did not hear of it), thanks for that suggestion, I have added that one next to the Moonlight plugin now.

As far as I am concerned the flight crash AVI or other movies at the mentioned website keep giving a black window in Firefox, also after having installed both Moonlight and Moonshine.

I gues it is Silverlight 2.0 then, but I cannot explain why the movie does show up in Konquerer.

Were you able to view the mentioned AVIs in FF?
