Pardus 2009 Alpha Released!

First alpha version for Pardus 2009 was released by the Pardus community. Pardus 2009 alpha is a preview release of the next version of the PARDUS distro.

What's new in the Pardus 2009 alpha version?

New Pardus 2009 alpha release comming with KDE4 desktop, improved driver support and new EXT4 file system. Other highlights listed below,

* Linux kernel 2.6.30_rc7
* OpenOffice.org office tools 3.1rc6
* Mozilla Firefox browser 3.5beta4
* Gimp 2.6.6
* Xorg 1.6.2pre

Just installed it (fooling around). For the installer, kaptan etc they've gone for a purple and gold theme. It looks pretty nice. Installation time is quicker than 2008, but nothing to brag about.

As for the desktop, there's good old kaptan, pisi, and also the pardus network manager, otherwise the interface doesn't look too different from standard kde. I especially missed TASMA.  Will keep experimenting

That said we still have two months till release.

Just installed this on a VM and I was blown away with the installer and how professional it looks. I like the pink and gold that runs throughout the installer and boot process, but was disappointed with being dumped into standard KDE 4 desktop.

I know its an alpha release, but I hope (fingers crossed) that the "pardus" look will go into the final product as Pardus 2008.x was for me the best iteration of KDE 3.5.x series.

I noticed some grammatical and spelling errors in the English translation of the installer, who do I contact about that?

Keep up the good work and I will look forward to seeing this get better as July approaches

Wow ... if there's one 4-letter word for 2009 Alpha, its F-A-S-T 

It seems very solid for an alpha release. I just installed it this morning and except for configuration box of the network plasma applet not showing up, I haven't noticed anything amiss yet. I am currently using the following apps on it:

Firefox
Virtualbox with Windows XP VM in it
Kontact
Konsole
Dolphin

Looks great and boots very fast. The main thing I noticed (and KDE4 devs may take notice) that it logs out of the desktop almost instantly as compared to other KDE4 builds I am using.

Looking forward to final release already :-)

it looks like not possible at the moment, i guess. on the new ideas section of ozgurlukicin it had voted and signed as "nonefective".

i couldnt get it to switch to english no matter what i did. the install was also in another language(im guessing turkish or something). ill definitely be keeping an eye out here as the last pardus i used was great,and im sure this one will live up!

Huh? When the CD first loads, press F2 and select English. No problems here...

I really really hope they'll put in TASMA for something like that. KDE's System settings is quite cluttered...

I agree with you.
KDE's System settings on this Alpha isn't on the same quality level as Tasma.
My hope is for the next releases.
