Hello,

Second testing release of Pardus 2009 is ready ! Like always you can
download this release from Pardus FTP servers at

http://ftp://ftp.pardus.org.tr/pub/pardus/kurulan/2009-RC/

For a smooth installation experience, please verify the checksum of
the ISO files after you have downloaded, use quality CD's and burn the
CD in DAO mode with 16x speed.

Highlight of this release is the new International Pardus 2009 ISO.
You can now choose any of the 11 languages to install and enjoy Pardus
2009, all in one CD.

Latest stable release of KDE family version 4.2.4 is has many new
enhancements and bugfixes since the beta release.

The new test version of Pardus 2009 contains up to date packages like

 KDE 4.2.4
 Linux kernel 2.6.30
 OpenOffice.Org 3.1.0.6
 Mozilla Firefox 3.5
 Gimp 2.6.6
 K3b 1.66
 Xorg 1.6.2pre
 Python 2.6.2

and many more in just one CD. Pardus repositories are growing larger
and larger everyday, with the main repo reaching 2000 packages.

Many more managers we have been using in 2008 are now ready for Pardus
2009. Managers now share the same look and feel, have many
optimizations and new features.

Network Manager Plasmoid has been modified to give more info about the
signal strength, transmission status and is graphically enhanced for
easier use, and now comes as default in the plasmoid panel.

Firewall Manager has been rewritten and went through a refactoring.
Internet connection sharing, rule management and firewall settings are
now much easier to configure.

Display Manager has also hit the 2009 repositories, fully integrated
with the desktop environment.

Package Manager has been through a major refactoring, and is now a lot
faster and easier to use. There are also new fatures like;

 - delta package support, decreasing the download size of updates from
40% to 98%
 - what is new support, allowing easy access to newly installed packages
 - fast! search system which allows searching within packages and their
info

Hardware support of Pardus 2009 has been improved. Support for many
new printers, scanners and webcams and many more has been added, and
many bug fixes are integrated to hardware system.

 Known issues of Pardus 2009 RC are as follows;

 - On some wireless adapters, signal strength can be detected less in
Network Manager Plasmoid

We remind you that this is the second testing release for Pardus
2009. Not all of the features and optimizations of the final release
are ready in the beta release. As this release is within the fast
developement cycle, there will be lots of package updates towards the
stable release.

We welcome you to report us the bugs you encounter and feature
requests in our bug tracker http://bugs.pardus.org.tr

Everything in the bugtracker is in Turkish and changing language settings still leaves it that way . rather than duplicate an existing bug, I'll give my two cents here Smiley The panel seemed to be a bit wonky after initial setup until I got it the way I liked and locked the bloody thing down . LCD weather is broke . DHCP and firewall should be enabled by default . At the very least starting the firewall should be part of the initial setup . I've changed my desktop theme to seamless - I find it looks much better . It would be nice to see the old icon theme back - I like it much better . I've also disabled desktop effects for dramatically better performance ( this should be part of initial setup as well ). Setting up Nvidia or ATI drivers should also be offered in the initial setup steps. It would be nice to see newly added packages in PISI . I would also like to see E17, Gnome, and LXDE, and some decent webcam apps in the repos . All in all the new Pardus is a nice KDE4 distro . Smiley

A few more more things I have noticed -

- All Steam games crash . KDE gives no output . XFCE gives a " failed to find steam " error even though I was launching the games through a working Steam window !

-Clicking on a link in Thunderbird does nothing . If Firefox is installed, Thunderbird is a logical accompaniment and the two should work in tandem .

- Please, please , please give me back my ctrl-alt-backspace

Has anyone else noticed that restart or shutdown doesn't work or is that just on my machine? Either from the main menu, or right clicking on the desktop, or the icon I added on the panel, trying to restart or shutdown just locks up my machine. Has been doing this for all versions of 2009 so far.

Java apps in both Firefox and Opera freeze the browser up solid . Photo uploads in Facebook actually crash the browser .
