[SOLVED] nvidia 7900 GS - How do I install and activate the nvidia drivers?

Hi all!

Just installed Pardus 2009 RC.
I want to use the original nvidia drivers. So I installed both the 185 drivers.
How do I get Pardus to use them by default. Nvidia doesnot show up in the system settings.

I can select Nouveau and nv there, but not nvidia.

How do I make this work?

Hi and welcome Archdevil,

Display-Settings, the new graphic card manager is not ready yet. Meanwhile, you can install and activate the Nvidia drivers using these instructions :

1) Install the following package with package manager :

xorg-video-nvidia185

2) Open a terminal :

Code:

ALT+F2 -> konsole

3) Copy/paste the following commands in it and then press the ENTER key :

sudo zorg --driver=nvidia/xorg-video-nvidia185

4) Restart your computer

Hopefully you will see the Nvidia startup screen at reboot.

gives me:


sudo: org: command not found

It should be "xorg" instead of "org". Corrected in the above message.

although it seems strange that xorg is not installed ;-)

It's just that I have had to edit three times my original post, as mentionned at the bottom of it.
