HI,

I have not used a KDE distro for a while until this fresh install of Pardus 2009. Very Nice.

I have not figured out how to gain any rights to edit files like GRUB menu, etc...  I tried sudo,su Kdesu. Kwrite IS installed so:

sudo kwrite
su kwrite
kdesu kwrite

should bring kwrite up with privileges to edit the GRUB menu, but this is not happening. What am I doing wrong ?

B.

Did you give yourself administrator  rights  at install? needed to use sudo or  you can edit /etc/sudoers

correct syntax for  su -c "kwrite" -- but x will prevent this connecting

xdg-su kwrite -- x happy

xdg-su calls either kdesu or gksu depending on what is available and how its configured.

You must give administrator privileges to yourselkf as user either upon installation or afterwards by means of system settings, do a forum search and you will come across this (system settings-user manager-edit username)

"mcedit /boot/grub/menu.lst"

does not work. I can't save the file. Kdesu, su, sudo, xdg-su kwrite do not work because Kwrite (which is installed is an invalid argument).

How can I edit the grub menu to chainload another distro ?

I do have administrator rights as far as I can tell. I reinstalled and selected admin right durin installation. Also, when I look at the users under the system settings I see everything is permitted....

I do have administrator rights as far as I can tell.
Have a look in System Settings > User Manager > Edit button
Is there a mark at 'Give administator rights.' ?
I can do it with Alt+F2
Quote
kdesu kwrite
or Alt+F2
Quote
kdesu kwrite /boot/grub/menu.lst
