New development:
Broadcom has made a driver for Linux. Cheesy
(Broadcom's BCM4311-, BCM4312-, BCM4321-, and BCM4322-based hardware)
And they can be installed as "module-broadcom-wl" and ""module-broadcom-wl-userspace" from the P2009 repo.

Don't know if you have the same problem, as I'm using an nvidia geforce card and had the blank screen after updating kernel with no proprietary driver installed.  My temp. fix:

Just to give more information on Lisa's post
Don't know if you have the same problem,...........
Prior to Lisa's post, James T posted this reply

Tied this, and it pulls in an alternative kernel "linux-pae" and when I try to boot that, I just get a black screen when X tries to start.
and then deleted his post.

My comment is: When I installed "module-broadcom-wl" and ""module-broadcom-wl-userspace", it did not pull the alternative kernel "linux-pae".
But as I don't have the broadcom device , I can't test this "broadcom" package.
