Error remounting root filesystem read/write

For some reaosn, Pardus does not want to start.
On start up, I have the following messgae:

Code:

* remounting root filesystem read/write
Cannot create link /etc/mtab~
Perhaps there is a stale lock file?

This is repeated 4 times, and then, when trying to

Code:

*Mounting USB filesystem

and

Code:

Mounting local filesystem

 I get the same error.

Finally, KDM appears and when I try to loggin, it says:

Logging in azra...

Cannot enter home directory. Using /.

I click okay, and a window appears saying

Code:

kstartupconfig4 does not exist or fails. The error code is 3. Check your installation.

Is there anything I can do or do I need to reinstall the system?

Can you get in konsole mode?
I got a major update today.
113 updates 150MB (download 70MB)
Maybe you can do a

Code:

sudo pisi ur

Code:

sudo pisi up

and restart the system.
Maybe this solves your problem.
Otherwise I recommend  "reinstall the system"

No console I am afraid. I guess this is the reinstall route then...

Have a look in /etc. Have you more than one mtab file (mtab~ for example) ? If yes, delete them so that there is only one /etc/mtab and reboot.

I reinstalled in the end... I could not cope with having no computer for three days!
Thanks for the advice though, if this happens next time I will try what you suggest.
