I have tried to install Gramps.  The file is a tar.gz, so the normal procedure is > ./configure >make > sudo make install.  However, the ./configure command exited with the following:-

scutiform@scutiform-pardus gramps-3.1.2 $ ./configure
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for a thread-safe mkdir -p... /bin/mkdir -p
checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
checking whether NLS is requested... yes
checking for style of include used by make... GNU
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl.exe... no
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
See `config.log' for more details.

How can I install a C compiler?
apt-get install doesn't work, what command should it be?

In Pardus use Package Manager (the little cat Wink) to install packages or user the following command in a Konsole
Code:
sudo pisi  it <package_name>
or for general help
Code:
pisi help

Code:
sudo pisi it -c system.devel

gets all the developpment tools you need to compile from source.
Pardus Linux is not yet another Debian derivative Linux distribution, so it's normal that apt-get doesn't work.
