[solved] hard drive clicking

Hi everybody,

My laptop (msi wind u100) hardrive is "clicking" (even when plugged in), sometimes 2 or 3 times per minute, sometimes less. I don't think this is normal, and it's probably the same bug users in other distros reported some years ago.

I knew you can fix it some way by using hdparm, but I have no real experience in the terminal, so if someone already did this in pardus, maybe it could tell me a simple way to reduce these clicks, or at least to check if my hard drive is not getting old too fast.

It isn't a problem on my MSI Wind U90X-037EU.

and it's probably the same bug users in other distros reported some years ago.

Can you give a link to the bug report?

A search with "hdparm" and/or "man hdparm" on the Internet can help.

In Ubuntu 'sudo hdparm -B 254 /dev/sda'  is used.
The command however, must be given after each start.......

Maybe adding the command (without sudo) in the file /etc/conf.d/hdparm will do the trick.
And also have look at "-M and others" at http://linux.die.net/man/8/hdparm to see all options.

Hello,

I had the feeling it was too much because of the annoying noise.
After reading this (its in french), I was able to compare my values:

My loadcycle is increasing each minute, but I am pretty sure it's not so bad now regarding the values in the article, so I will wait some months and compare again.

By the way in ubuntu french forums some msi wind users reported this bug also, especially on batterie mode, so I think it worths a check.
