Good to know. Especially that the live cd version will be released.
I guess Pardus will attract more people to give it a try then. Smiley

Im little suprised Pardus are only on place no:37 in Distrowatch list:
http://distrowatch.com/

I am sure if more people would try it would be among the top five. Smiley

It used to be much lower, its on a gradual rise over the years. I've been following it pretty often and I remember when it was around the 60-80s mark. The numbers will improve, but I think they will improve much more due to the live CDs, as you mentioned. I also think when move up on distrowatch, there are more sites willing to review your distro and more linux enthusiasts willing to try it out. Also, I emailed quite a few sites/reviewers to review Pardus and a good portion of them did review it. If there is a linux site you visit or a someone you know someone who does reviews, you should simply request/ask that they review it and more often than not, they will. I'm going to email the same bunch that did the last reviews, when 2009.1 comes out. I think Pardus will be in the Top 20 come next year. Top 10 would be pretty amazing, considering there are so many top level distros out there, but I think Pardus can reach that as well in a few years.

Pardus is well respected when mentioned to DW's readers (and also in other forums). I think it's just that the Pardus' devs are mainly focused on Turkish users, just don't put much effort internationally. They don't mind supporting users who find and use it etc, but not really "care" about promoting it.

I think it would be a good idea to promote Pardus in other countries than Turkey to. After all Ubuntu and other Linux systems are in Turkish versions to.
Even many people in Turkey prefeer Ubuntu.
With a large base of users around the world it be more contribution, bug reports etc..And it will improve Pardus in the long run. Smiley

I think it are to many Linux distributions in the world,  Thoose who are to small propably will dissapear. Get financial troubles and so on.
If Pardus play they cards good they have all chanses to be one of the "big" ones.

Hello,

 First testing release of Pardus 2009.1 is ready ! Like always you can
download this release from Pardus FTP servers;

 * Multilanguage CD image
  http://ftp.pardus.org.tr/pub/pardus/kurulan/2009.1/Pardus_2009.1_Beta_International.iso

 * Turkish and English CD image
  http://ftp.pardus.org.tr/pub/pardus/kurulan/2009.1/Pardus_2009.1_Beta.iso

 Pardus 2009.1 Beta comes with the latest stable KDE release, enhanced
hardware support, bigger software archive with up to date packages such
as;

 KDE 4.3.4
 Linux kernel 2.6.30.9
 OpenOffice.Org 3.1.1.5
 Mozilla Firefox 3.5.6
 Gimp 2.6.7
 Xorg 1.6.5
 Python 2.6.4

 and many more in just one CD.

 We remind you that this is the first testing release for Pardus
2009.1. Not all of the features and optimizations of the final release
are ready in the beta release. As this release is within the fast
developement cycle, there will be lots of package updates towards the
stable release.

 We welcome you to report us the bugs you encounter and feature
requests in our bug tracker [1] for a better Pardus.

Links don't seem to be working. Keep getting redirected to http://microfocus.com/  (in Opera anyway, Firefox and Arora just give me a can't connect message)

I think Pardus is one of the best, if not the best KDE distro out there.  Cheesy

What deters me Pardus as No 1 choice (and why Pardus not really want to increase Distrowatch) is the limited number of packages.

Now it seems not so hard to compile these yourself, but a good and complete how-to is not available. I've played with pisiyap, but that did not work for me. In the past, that's fine with pisibul, but this program is not maintained (?).

Pardus may in the top ten if there were more programs in the repository of if you make it easier to build pisi packages....

Agreed. I currently have Pclinuxos, Chakra, Sabayon, Sidux, Arch, Unity, and Mandriva installed and this Pardus beta has become my default distro. I love how it's Dolphin will display a particular partition as "/mnt/sda12" instead of the more generic "/mnt/disk" the other distros display. Is that a setting or what?

Pardus has a pretty up to date kernel, not as current as Arch or Sidux, and has very fast performance. And it looks great.

Other than the smaller repositories the only problem I can think of is the package manager not having an option to show newly added programs instead of just all not installed ones.

This can be done with the command :
