I use the Dutch repos and tonight the big update to Pardus 2009.2 came through. It was a large download -- 211 packages, 361 MB -- so it took a while for it to finish. Because of its size, I did the upgrade using PiSi on the command line ( # pisi upgrade ) and immediately rebooted the system when the update had completed. Everything seems to be working fine so far.

2009.2 includes updated versions of Firefox, OpenOffice.org, GIMP, digiKam, Amarok, VLC, etc. There are also four new wallpapers featuring the hermit ibis. I like #2, which was created by Kadir Söğüt; I'm attaching a screenshot of it below.

Many thanks to the Pardus development team and everyone else who helped with this new release. Çok teşekkür ederim!

I'm finally up to RC version.  This time I put myself on the mailing list at linuxcd dot org for when they get Pardus 2009.2,  as I don't want to spend another 4 days downloading it via dial up.   Grin
In the meantime, I'll continue with the RC version which is so far stable for me.

Hi Lisa,

perhaps a user, which life in your country, is so kindly to burn a DVD of Pardus 2009.2 and send it to you.

I would do it, but I don`t know how long the shipping is from Germany to you.  Wink

Hi, Lisa,

I would be happy to download the new Install-DVD .iso, burn it to disc and mail it to you. No cost. (We were on dialup quite a while, so I know what that's like ...) If you're interested, just send me a brief e-mail and we can work out the details. My address is kalwisti at gmail dot com.

=david

< Edit:
I downloaded the .iso while I was doing the yardwork outside. I just verified the md5sum and sha1sum, and they are both correct. So it's just a matter of burning the image to a DVD. >

A tip is to buy a cd or DVD here, if problem with the burning process:
http://www.linuxcd.org/view_distro.php?lst=&id_cate=22&id_distro=343

I guess the new Pardus 2009.2 be avaible there in some few days. I have bougtht some Pardus cd there before and all works perfectly. Smiley

I'm finally up to RC version.
I have tested the size of the update from P2009.2RC to P2009.2 Geronticus eremita.
It is (in my test) 119 packages with 342MB download.

Mercurio,

Please check your system BIOS settings (usually by pressing the F2 or Del key during startup).  Make sure the system is set to boot from the CD Rom or DVD Rom drive.  Many systems default to boot from the Hard Drive,  so the install program will not start.  Good Luck!

Thank you for the suggestion Andreas, and you are very kind and generous, kalwisti to offer to send my a disk of Pardus!!!  I appreciate it very much, but I will decline.  As John A suggests, linuxcd dot org is one of the few places that sell Pardus distribution.  I put my name on their mailing list for when they get 2009.2 version.  I have done business with them in the past, and they are very reasonable and fast shipping.  Of course, I might change my mind and just do short interval downloads at night time.  This is not really a problem, either.  Anticipation can be a good thing!  Cheesy

Thanks for your suggestions!
Warm regards, Lisa Marie
