"We (as people working at Tübitak or as the project) don't get
donations, I don't know the details, if it has something to do with
legality etc., but it is something we prefer not to do. I can't say
anything about non-paid developers though, it is all up to them and you.
If there is some serious wish to support using currency, I think the
community can manage itself and be very helpful Smiley Paid developers
can not participate in the flow of currency, but one (or more ?) chosen
(maybe selected / voted ?) person may step up and manage the flow.
How the currency may be spent, a few ideas come to my mind
 * Eccentric hardware: We experience trouble in maintaining some
eccentric hardware, simply because we don't have continious direct
access to them. Sometimes a particular hardware is not available in the
market (around Turkey) or hard to get. Or for example with 3G modems,
that maintaining the hardware is easier but it also needs "continued
payment for the membership of the gsm operator", which requires
paperwork and following up payment of bills.
 * Gifts: Well, I don't know if it is known well by the users, but the
mood of the developers affect their performance a lot. Some small
gifts (usually geeky toys, small electronic devices, daily used stuff,
stuff well known about other countries, sweet candies etc. are good
choices) sent to developers will greatly improve their morale and
energy to work. This can be done in many ways, selecting one gift and
sending it to all active developers is a way, another one may be the
community chooses developer of the month and send a present to him/her,
and choose another next month (or two months etc.). If this will be the
way, I think it should  be extended to all kinds of contributors
(translators etc.). I believe how to do this should also be decided by
the community, to be fair.
Paid developers' office address can be found on our page, but unpaid
developers should be contacted in private first since they probably
will not like to publish their address online.
 * Support nonpaid developers: Nonpaid developers pay for their
developement system. Providing fast hardware to non paid developers, to
fasten their compiling etc. task is also a good way to increase
motivation. It does not have to be a full hardware if there is not
enough money, an RAM upgrade, an additional harddrive to install
multiple releases at the same time etc.
Guess these give an idea. I believe such support will be very helpful,
thank you Smiley
PS: I must remind, this is not an official response, it is rather a
collection of my personal thoughts."
