Pardus 2011 RC: Hasankeyf is now available

Installation images can be downloaded from:

We strongly recommend you to verify the integrity of the installation
image with md5sum or sha1sum, to use good quality blank media, to burn
the images in 4X burning speed for a painless installation experience.

* Better hardware support with latest Linux kernel: 2.6.37-rc8,

* Users that have AMD and Nvidia graphics cards are now able to make selection
between open source and vendor supported proprietary drivers during and after
the installation,

* Hungarian and Russian language support is added,

* The network configuration utility called 'network' is ported to the new
NetworkManager backend by one of our internship students Doruk Altan. So you
will be able to configure your wired and wireless networks through the
terminal,

* Lots of bugfixes are included in installation (YALI) and configuration
(manager family) applications of Pardus,

* New binary packages are included in Pardus 2011 package repository.


Known issues for this release are:

* Firefox is always displayed in English independent from the system locale,

* Adding 'nomodeset' kernel parameter may be needed to prevent boot problems
in some machines.


The reason that we decide to name the Release Candidate after Hasankeyf, is to
draw attention to the menace to this historical village caused by Ilısu Dam.
Hasankeyf[1] is an ancient part of Mesopotamia, one of the oldest settling
areas of the human history.

I have a high speed cable internet connection and am looking at about a 9 hour download for both types of install isos. Are you really trying to encourage people to try Pardus?

Where are You located?

I´am in Europe and I have ADSL with 6000kbs. I can download both with about 150-230kbs (single download / no manager) and the forecast is definately less than 2 hours.

So it seems that there is somewhere else a problem.

I'm in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It's doing about 30-40 kbs.

Just randomly picked dragora and moonos off the distrowatch page as a test. Getting 135 and 900 kbs respectively. Pardus now at 28.5-33.5 kbs.

Wow, now I´m jealous. I was in FL twice and it is a really nice state. I´m a fan of the country and the friendly people there.
I don´t talk about politics here, because it is a technical forum.

Total download time will be ~ 9 minutes.
And this is with an average 20€/month ADSL internet connection from the Netherlands.

That link gave me 30kbs with a 10 1/2 hour download. The ftp2 links gave me 33kbs and 9 1/2 hour downloads. Guess it's just going to be a long day.....

Hi all,

I'm visiting my family who has a wireless router connection (exciting for me, Miss Dial Up  ) 
I used my husband's laptop yesterday and downloaded it from here in less than 5 hours. 
I look forward to installing it (64 bit version) when I get home, and try out the video choice selector.

Speed now 27-30 kps, only 3 3/4 hours to go.   

After all this I hope the ati drivers and kaptan finally work. No version of 2011 has worked properly for me yet.

Back home and I have installed the RC version and was pleased with how it went.  I was a bit confused when Yali installer didn't ask me to set up a username password and root password as was noted here, but all was well when I found this part of set up occurs after packages are installed and one reboots without disk.

The only kde crash report was at first log in before the start of Kaptan, akonadi[?) was trying to find address book contacts and couldn't find it since I wasn't connected to internet.   I have since opened Kontact>configure Kontact and have unticked some of the components I won't be using.  I read somewhere that akonadi only runs if something calls it up, like kmail. 

I chose Pardus Mood wallpaper.  Very nice look!  Trying out Lancelot Launcher.  Neato!
