I'm troubleshooting a graphics issue and am eliminating possibilities. Since upgrading to Pardus 2011, I have had intermittent but persistent problems with screen freezes. When this happens, Pardus does not respond to the usual keyboard solutions i.e. Ctrl + Alt + Del etc. and I must power off and reboot.
I have checked with the Adobe Flash versions checker at
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and find I have an old version, 10.2.153.1. They recommend 10.2.159.1.
I'm guessing that recent changes at Youtube require upgrading Flash for smooth viewing, as Youtube is constantly tinkering with the way things work at their site. Neither Flash nor Java provides timely support for Opera; and updates for Opera often lag. I have checked with the Java tester
http://javatester.org/version.html and find that my Java is currently up to date.
If it's not a Flash issue, the next possibility I plan to explore would be the nvidia driver for my Geforce 6150LE. I have had the issue discussed here
http://worldforum.pardus-linux.nl/index.php?topic=3589.msg19448;boardseen#new and here
http://worldforum.pardus-linux.nl/index.php?topic=3582.msg18891#msg18891 successfully applied the solutions offered here
http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/show_bug.cgi?id=16210#c12 and have blacklisted the nouveau driver. I have also disabled hardware acceleration in Flash.
I may need to tinker with my browser's Flash settings. I'm using opera 11.01.
I have successfully used this video card with Pardus in 2009-2009.2.
There were rare and minor issues with these versions of Pardus. Occasionally, when closing a program via the x button in the top right hand corner, kde would tell me that the programme had closed unexpectedly. This was amusing rather than annoying. Even more rarely, kde programmes would close unexpectedly. I figured this was a kde issue, an it did clear up with an update.
Another factor that may be complicating things is my mouse usb connector. I have had minor mouse issues across in both Vista and Linux - different issues with different mouses. My current mouse performs very well in Pardus but poorly in Vista (which I only use for playing Myst).
Any insight would be appreciated.
