Are there any forum software programs in the repositories?
I am looking at the SMF program here.
http://www.simplemachines.org/
I see that this forum is using SMF. Is there another name for it that I should look for in the repositories?
Has it or can it be packaged for Pardus?
I would like something similar to vBulletins in a free open source if possible.
I have no idea what others would consider the best software to run on Pardus/Linux.
All input would be appreciated.

You can search from this list:

And this:
http://packages.pardus.org.tr/

Maybe it can be of help.

do you mean, you wanna install a forum on your localhost? if you do, then you must install apache server, phpmyadmin and mysql packages from pisi... after that you can download smf (or any other forum software) and copy files under /var/www/localhost/htdocs. to start smf installation type browser to  http://localhost/

Yes, golge, I am wanting to setup SMF locally. I would like to play with the dashboard to get an idea of how well I like it. Hopefully I would be able to actually do some of the setup and then transfer my work to either a server station I have built or else to an online host at a later time.
This is the first time I've ever done this and I'm not sure just how it will end up. I'm thinking that a separate install of Pardus on my server machine, maybe the Corporate version is what I might like to have eventually.
It seems to me that it would be the safe thing to do to have all my work locally but away from my regular desktop.
Am I thinking right and is Pardus the way to go with this?
I am trying to avoid any risk of loss in the future to online host or a desktop crash or just plain "bloat".
This gives me some direction and I really appreciate everyone's responses.
John A, thanks for the links, especially the one with the comparisons. it was reassuring for me.
I welcome any suggestions for using a different program other than SMF if anyone has any cautions for me.
Thanks!

My final solution for a forum was to use an online host.
I'll pick another time for learning to set the server up, etc..

I am using the free SMF or Simple Machines Forum package, same as this site is built on.
http://www.simplemachines.org/
I'm using x10hosting for free hosting at this time.

All is running well on Pardus.  Smiley
Thanks for the help.
