I am a real "newbie" to Linux and could use some advice.
I haven't become familiar with doing even the basic installs outside of the pisi so please be nice.
There is a writing software program that i would like to run and would like some advice on the install.
I spent all of last week setting up the 64 bit version of 2011 just to discover that it doesn't run "wine" yet.
So I installed the 32 bit on a different drive so I could run a few progs I really like in wine.
One of the main ones I want to use is "yWriter" but I see that it can be run in Linux without wine.
I would really like to do this but I am not sure how to go about it yet. There is an install tutorial for doing this on Ubuntu but I fear it will be quite different on Pardus.
I was hoping someone would take the time to look at the authors page and give me their opinion on what I am facing before I dive in. Will his old method be the best for Pardus or should I take a completely different approach?
If there is a better way to go about this please point me in the right direction.
To many this program might not seem such a great deal but to many others it is an invaluable approach to writing.
I would love to see it offered in the package installer! Yah, that would take care of all my problems.  Wink
First time Linux user and I am LOVING Pardus!!!
The link to yWriter and the tutorial is here. http://www.spacejock.com/yWriter5_Linux.html
Thanks for whatever help anyone has time to offer.

1. Add Pardususer.de repo:
Code:
pisi ar pardususer.de http://pakete.pardususer.de/pardus-2011/i686/pisi-index.xml.xz
2. install msttcorefonts with pisi
3. install mono-runtime with pisi

and follow the instructions as You can see on the given homepage:
An example: installing yWriter5 on Linux

First, make sure you're in your home directory by typing

cd ~

now enter

wget http://www.spacejock.com/files/yWriter5.zip

and then

unzip yWriter5.zip

This will create a yWriter5 directory, with a bin folder inside it. So, enter

cd yWriter5
cd bin

and now run yWriter with this command:

mono yWriter5.exe

You can set up a shortcut on the Ubuntu desktop by specifying ~/yWriter/bin as the path, mono as the application and yWriter5.exe as the parameter. You can also run yWriter by right-clicking the yWriter5.exe file and selecting 'run with mono'

You will see no difference between the working wine version and the version using mono! If I were in Your position maybe I leave it on the base of wine...

SW, I tried following the steps above but I'm missing something.
Everything appeared to go well. yWriter begins to load in WINE and then just disappears.
This is a copy/paste of the steps I took.

Any help on running yWriter would be much appreciated.
When I try to run it from terminal using "mono yWriter5.exe" I get the following result.

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.VisualBasic, Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies.
The entry point method could not be loaded

If I try to run the ".exe" file itself, WINE will try to run it but after a minute it just disappears and never opens.

Is there something I can do for this?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Try :
Code:
mono ~/yWriter5/bin/yWriter5.exe

(you forgot two steps in SW's tutorial : cd yWriter5 and
cd bin )
