It's a good guide for thoose who want LVM. I have no need for that at the moment or for encrypted disk and so on.
But I think it should be a Pardus option to for the user (like the author of the review) that wants it:

I guess some of them could be a Pardus otion to.

But the optimal solution would be if you got a disk encryption choice during the installation process like in Ubuntu:

For a ordinary computer user at home. I don't think encrypted disk are the main issue with Pardus.
(maybe for professional users)
I guess it's more that they will have wireless connection that work fine etc..

But the most important thing of all in my personal opinion are that this guy write at the comment in the review:

It was never a Pardus 2010, but I understand his point. It will not be a problem in Pardus 2011.2.

But after that it probably be a new line of Pardus version again. And if the repo will shrink to about 60 % of the normal size I don't think so many users will continue with it..
So I hope the Pardus developers have a roadmap/plan how they will do.

I also have a comment for MacLone, but somehow my post seems to be too long because it is not accepted. This is the reason why I post it also here. Have a look:

To keep software actual it is mostly necessary to build regulary a new package. Sometimes libraries changes and then also a package needs some "handwork". So a necessary package update for a new Pardus version is not a huge disadvantage. It rather helps to keep the system free from errors.

Everybody is jelling about the small numbers of packages. IMHO Linux is not a gaming system so for me the low number of included games is not a hard thing. Pardus will NEVER have the number of packages as Debian/Ubuntu or the other main distros. BUT - Pardus offers the best main programs everybody needs. Meanwhile we have a really good status. If there is a package missing in repository You can request it in the official bugtracking, or You can contact any volunteer packager.
For me it is better to keep the repo small and provide only the best working programs than offer every little xxxxx software.

What packages/programs do You missing in Pardus 2011? I´m very interested, because I have the feeling a lot of people only counting the available packages and then they drop pardus because of the low number.

Please don´t misunderstand me - my post is not offense or will blame anybody!  )

Good point. Pardus will never have the largest repo (and I don't demand it either) . But I think the problem are when they release new lines.
Pardus 2008.2 had a descent repository, many liked it. But many was very dissaponted when Pardus 2009 came. Many favourite applications was gone.
Pardus 2009.1 was little better.

At the time Pardus 2009.2 was out most of the stuff was back. But what happend when 2011 was out? Same issues all over again...

If they atleast could keep the repository at the same level  it be much better.  I think it would have been much smarter if they had released a Pardus 2009.3 and when the repository was fixed for 2011 they could have released it.

But thats just my personal opinion of course.

If I just take a concrete example for a programs that are missing. Licq was in Pardus 2008, 2008.1 and 2008.2. Gone in Pardus 2009 then back in 2009.1 and 2009.2
And gone again in 2011 and not back in 2011.1 (maybe back in 2011.2)

And Licq is not just a game it's the best option for the real ICQ if you are use to the real ICQ features, that nobody of the multifunction protocols have like Pidgin.
As the same way that Gyache Improved are the best option for the real Yahoo Messenger. (the only application that work with webcam etc..)

I talking about thoose and similar applications.

Okay, You beated me! 

A drop of packages is caused by every single pardus developer. When I create a package for PardusUser repo and I maintain it and some day I don´t like or I don´t can keep it up to date for some reason and nobody will take over the package then some day it will disapear.

This is really a bad thing, when nobody take over those packages. As many developer stated some of them have over 300 packages to maintain so a drop of a package could also happen by accident. 

The only thing where we can help to avoid a drop is note it again and again in bugtracking. You are already doing this and You are quite sucessful

I know some programs are "dead" so to speak. Not developing anymore and so on. That you can remove. But for Licq it's still a living project.

Gyache Improved are solved and will hit the stabile repo soon.

But in general im pleased with Pardus. Thats why I use it.

Caitlyn Martin wrote a nice review of 2011 on 25 April. I doubt we'll see another for the .1 upgrade, but it's possible. The page to which you provided a link, John, lists 2011.1 as the last update occurring in the very early hours of July 12.

Yes I know. But they always put reviews from other authors at Distrowatch to.
