I am not able to get my HP printer to work in Pardus 2011.I I already installed this package from pisi:
hplip-gui

http://packages.pardus.org.tr/info/corporate2/devel/source/hplip.html

All seems alright and it detect the printer. But all printing jobs stay in a queue an just stop there permanently.
If I go in the hp settings and try to install the required plug-in all freeze and then crash to.
Any ideas how to get it to work?

In my Ubuntu 11.04 same printer works fine. I have a Samsung printer I can use for the Pardus so I am not depended on the hp printer.
Anyone else here got problem with HP and Pardus?

I have add my own comments in this bug report:
http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/show_bug.cgi?id=18925

It's more about HP here:
http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=HP+printer

I just thinks it's little frustrating if HP not work in Pardus when they got a HP package in the repository.
Especially when they are member of the Linux foundation to: Angry

Hello John A,
I don't have this printer, but I found similar problems in the following links:

http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/hardware/426798-hplaserjet-p1005-hplip-not-work-11-2-a.html

Thanks. I guess it's problem with the hplip package or something. In Ubuntu 11.04 it detects and install hplip automatic after I answer some questions. Then I can just print out.

I thinks it's some kind of KDE related problem. I hope it will be solved in time.

I don´t know where I found the information but when I´m rember correct, then due to some license reasons HP is not able to supply a part in HPLIP (e.g. a firmware part .....)

When You read carefully the post of openSUSE, then You will find something similar:
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/hardware/426798-hplaserjet-p1005-hplip-not-work-11-2-a.html

Yes but the HPLIP are in the Pardus repository for installation:
hplip-gui
http://packages.pardus.org.tr/info/corporate2/devel/source/hplip.html

I have installed them already but it dont help.

I see another package there to:
hplip-docs
"Documentation files for HPLIP"

Must you install that to maybe? Huh?

Edit:
Other distributions have them here:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/index.html

But I am told that Pardus got them in the Pisi so thats why you not see Pardus at that list.

I understand. It was a developer who write in a closed bug report that that HPLiP was in Pisi. It was not installed by default by legal reason.
Thats why you must install it yourself. Like this:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/index.html

The reason Pardus not have them there are it be confusing if you got the same package in pisi to.

^^^close but not perfect! Better:

Quote
HPLIP is installed by default, but a part of software (firmware) that is not included in HPLIP must installed manually.

And how do I install them manually? The program crashes at every attempt as you see in the 2 screenshots from the first comment.
"install the required plug-in" I suppose thats the one.

Or is it some other way to do that? Smiley

Edit: I have ask in the bug report about this:
"HPLIP is installed by default, but a part of software (firmware) that is not included in HPLIP must installed manually."

I suppose the developers know how you do.

Thanks. Maybe it will work. But I have not so much time now (vacation over and I work again). I will use Pardus with the Samsung (works perfect out of the box) and Ubuntu with the HP.
But even so, the hp gui program I downloaded from pisi freeze and crashes everytime you try to make a adjustment there so it are some kind of bug somewhere.

I dont know how other HP printers are. Maybe it just this model. HP LaserJet P1005.
