There's just a couple of errors, but it started as GUI.  Will have to try it out as I've never used it before.

Nice player!  It's playing my CD disc of MP3's at 16 bit audio by dragging and dropping it from Dolphin.

I was curious what freepats was and downloaded freepats-20060219.tar.bz2 to my Downloads folder and unpacked it. I'm going to see if I can point timidity to this, though it does seem to be using shompatches.  Freepats is only bigger, offers more sounds.
I don't know if it was needed, but I enabled Timidity service in service manager and to start at start up, and also went to System Settings>File associations>adio>midi and added Deadbeef player to Application Preference.

Update on using freepats:
I  managed to get deadbeef to use freepats.  Now more error that it is looking for freepats.cfg file.  I Opened deadbeef player, Edit>Preferences>Plugins>WildMidiPlayer and highlighted it and clicked "configure" and selected the folder where I had unpacked the freepats file in my home/Downloads folder>OK.  It plays midis I found for free on internet.  It seems that timidity running as a service is not necessary to play midi files as I now have it stopped under Service Manager.
