thanks for the article john a. very much to the point: where are we going with our gui?

where kde 4 is maybe a bit to customizable and bloated with gadgets, gnome 3 -as used in fedora 16- lacks too many features, is my first impression.

i don't care much for any os that does most of it's work/operations behind my back. i want to have some control, e.g. on what's started during start up.
or should we be glad with a tiny, and thus probably very stable gui os, and getting used to cloud computing (or the console) again?

personal i still prefer the 'old school' desktop gui's like in pardus kurumsal (kde 3.5.10) or gnome 2 in scientific linux 6.2.

just been tinkering a bit more with fedora 16 and its gnome 3.2 (is that the whole thing or just a part?)
- had to reboot from console. a feature or just something missing?
- if your mouse pointer accidentally 'touches' an app a few seconds, it starts (just what i always wanted   )
- one mouse button seems enough to do everything (didn't mak have a similar feature?)
- jut some very, and i mean very, basic options to adjust/customize some settings
- think i'll drop gnome, in a pond or so...

I have read about some Windows user who have tryed the beta version. And they not seems to like it.
So maybe Windows 7 will be the new XP (Lasting long time)

i suppose, or i hope, there will be an os that is strictly targeted at people who have to do some actual work on a computer.

try to work with these new gui's with apps that have a very heavy system load and old fashioned gui (and probably won't change that. why should they: the application does work as intended.)

looks like the opportunity to develop an stable customizable os (without the bling bling) presents itself at this moment; it wouldn't surprise me when mikrosovt is already working on such an at professionals targeted os right now...
