Whenever Kde loads, the sound crackles. I believe this is a KDE, phonon problem. Anyone have a fix?

I have the same issue...seems to have improved some in the last week or so, but it's still there. Other KDE distros (Chakra) don't seem to have this problem...but then with Chakra, ONLY the boot sound works...no other sound works....while in Pardus sound works everywhere...

I have a weak sound in Pardus 2011.2 if I compare with the latest Ubuntu 10.10. Even if I put the sound setting at maximum in Pardus, Ubuntu have around 50 % stronger sound volume.
Maybe it's a KDE related issue.

When I used the old Pardus 2009.2 I had not this problem. Started with the new 2011 line:

I guess it's not happend in every computer. In this aspect I must say Ubuntu/Gnome are better then KDE in general.
With the sound, seems to detect the hardware perfect every time in my PC.

But now they got Unity/Gnome 3 that are not in my taste. Wink

I agree John, but the new Mint Gnome Extensions look promising.  Unfortunately, I have no end of troubles with the latest 2 versions of Ubuntu based distro's... I am pretty sure it all has to do with KMS, but even turning that off, I boot to blank screen in all the Ubuntus on my new Llano bassed laptop

Chris does your G7 have AMD CPU/graphics?  It seems to be a problem with AMD Llano drivers
