I am not so sure I agree. Maybe when it was Windows Vista.
But now Microsoft are in the game again:

I am worried about the future for Linux in general. The interest seems to be decline if I compare for about 2 or 3 years ago.
Even Ubuntu have problems. They can not have a Swedish language packs that work anymore:

The quality are not the same as before. Some say becaues they have so much problem with the Unity desktop so they can not deal with this issues...
Since Ubuntu are the first contact with Linux for beginners from Windows this is serious.
