I have my doubts that any Linux distribution will be left in about 2 years time for home desktop users:

I guess companys like RED HAT will survive. Ubuntu to if Shuttleworth not getting tired of it.
But if the best developers not get any salary to developing for the upstream , applications, Kernel etc..the future is not so bright.

You DO realize , I am sure , that Mandrake ( and all it evolutions ) has lasted longer than cp/m , msdos , win95 put altogether, not to mention almost as long as windows itself ?

Yes I know about Mandrivas history. But we live here and now.
What they have done at the past are not so relevant at this point.

Most Linux websites in Sweden are dying or are already gone. Including a great Linux Wiki page.
I dont know how things are in other places.
But if this continue only some hardcore fans will be using Linux.

The cat's out of the bag  John A., there is simply too many people that know how to make a free operating system (Linux or otherwise) .I was just looking at a commercial site selling Os/2 (renamed) thinking that it would be great for 286's or 386's (officially dead since Dec 2005 ).

It's only dead if people stop using it.
