Dear Pardus users,

As you know, Pardus is being developed by the Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey. The Council has been restructuring for more than three months. This process affected all the projects developed by the Council, including Pardus Project.

To be honest, the restructuring period brought a lot of changes to Pardus project, which we actually don't know but we see its affects. A remarkable number of developers had left the project, the working wheels of the project are about to stop etc.

We actually do not have a satisfactory official information. There is limited information from the project

1- Ozan Çağlayan's mail, which you may also read in DistroWatch's weekly. Also ote that, Ozan Çağlayan resigned at the beginning of the new year due to his unwanted designation to another project in Ankara

2-Nihan Katipoğlu's blog in the Official Community Coordinator's Blog:

Nihan wrote:

"The ongoing restructrurring process has not finished yet. As the process is in operation we postpointed the release of the Corporate 2.1 version. Please note that the words "Pardus Project is closing etc" are just rumours. The project is not closing, but changing and transforming. We will see the changes together. As the decisions taken we will write them and share with you."

3- Erkan Tekman's Farewell Letter, summarily the project is not ending however, it is somehow transforming.

4-An officer's declaration from the Council that Pardus is not closing.

5-A reply to a question asked under the Law of Right Of Information Acquirement from the Council. Which states that the project is in operation for the moment.

Those were the official/semi-official intel which we can share with you at the moment. As you know there are lots of rumours around. And we know that you really wonder what's going around.

Please be patient, at the moment we do not like to share the rumours with you, which will make you sad, even if they are not true.

We will share the serious info, which are confirmed, and we will share with you the official announcements which are made in Turkish.

We, Turkish speaking Pardus community would like you to be a part of this. So we will post any remarkable intel in a short brief to www.pardusworld.com. We also opened a twitter account https://twitter.com/PardusWorld which you may follow.

Best regards,

dear pardus,

thank you for the information provided.

as a linux, and pardus user i do however have some remarks.

1. pardus is shipped in several languages, and thus likely to be used outside turkey as wel.
therefore, i think all important information on the further development of this beautiful os, should at least also be available in english.

2. information on the continuation of (security)updates is a requirement, before even considering to continue to use pardus.

some more general isues.
- please consider to organize the development of packages in a more central coordinated fashion.
now there are some very skilled community members, creating packages for pardus, without pardus in turkey even knowing about it, as far as i know.

- there are several pardus communities, containing not only enthusiastic and skilled members, but also a considerable amount of valuable information.
a more central organized community, with several sub-forums in other languages, could be beneficial for both pardus and their communities.

best regards,

owiknowi

p.s. the above is strictly personal and not meant to be offensive in any way, nor meant to lead to a discussion.

I see many distributions who got problems now. Maybe it are just to many Linux distributions?
And the work with LSB (Linux Standard Base) have not moving forward much since 2008:
https://wiki.linuxfoundation.org/en/Specifications

And some write it (Linux) have been already dead on desktop since then:
http://www.neowin.net/news/linux-is-dead-at-least-on-the-desktop

I see much articles about Ubuntu TV, mobile phones etc..
If Linux are not able to get more than 1% on the desktop I dont think it are so good idea to get involved in those fields:

http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/01/ubuntu-tv-unveiled-at-ces/

And on tablets I can only see iPAD, Android and Windows 8 as a realistic option:
http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Mobile-and-Wireless/Windows-8-Tablets-Will-Be-A-Huge-Hit-10-Reasons-Why-622388/

If Pardus have limited resources to maintain a Corporate and a home version of an operatingsystem can they realy develope a tablet version to?
