P/S: We should immediately go on forming the teams Richard mentions in his proposal.

I think the same. But how and where should we start? Are there enough volunteers to do this job?

@Dirse, good news, and you have already great ideas Smiley

@berat01 good question Smiley

@all, i also think we should start immediately, but with who? Are there enough volunteers? This weekend I send a new newsletter, and we can ask for volunteers. Maybe a few people around here can form the community council for the time being. Allready find out all the things Dirse mention over here.

Because we have a lot of users from Turkey it is necessarily to have someone who can communicate in Turkish (Dirse Smiley ). Maybe we can use the Google stuff for creating a new community place (Google +, google groups, mailinglist, etc).

So everybody on this forum look at the proposal and place yourself somewhere on the list.

But most important now is the name and logo.

Phoenix: free as name??
Fenix: is already linux distro with that name
Funix: free as name?

I choose Phoenix then ..

But maybe there are more suggestions for a name.

Phoenix: free as name??

Phoenix was the name of an OS developed by the University of Cambridge that ran on IBM mainframes in the 1970's and 80's. (The name came from the Phoenix building which was the home of the computing service). I don't know if they still have any interests in the name.

İs it going to be a new distro with one of these names? Or is it going to be something like "Pardus Phoenix"?

If we fork it, "Spartacus" is also  possible as a name. And the logo can be a man who is breaking his chains.

Good analysis, i give a reaction saterday evening. But what is most important right know is to find developers, and the best are developers who known the structure of Pardus.

What I know is that the former developers not want to work for Tubitak anymore, but maybe in the future they want to work for a real open community.

Personally, I have strong doubts about Nihad Karslı's above announcement. There are only 10-15 days left. What/who is the real source of this announcement? As I said before, the June 2nd "historical turning point (!!!) for Pardus/Anka" has turned out to be a total "fiasco"! How can we trust Nihad Karslı any more?
I agree.

I would also like to point out that the name "Phoenix" is problematic. I've done some searching and found these instances of "prior use":

Phoenix (aka)
PCLinuxOS Phoenix (aka)
PCLinuxOS Phoenix Edition
[Is a community "spin" developed by Sproggy [Kori] with the Xfce desktop environment.
He has since moved on to develop Phinx: http://tinyurl.com/cc3oraz ]

Phoenix

[last active in 2009 (?)]

At the moment, I don't have a suggestion for a better name, but I think "Phoenix" should be avoided.

I dont understand very well turkish and i dont know the normative ideas to choice a name, but i think a good name to a big project is Colosse Linux, or Niquel Linux, because this mean Strong / resitant.

Hi all,

If we give Turkish name as "KIZILYILDIZ"  does it make problem?

It means red star. I suggest as KIZILYILDIZ what do you say? there is no linux distribution in Turkey.
