Hello Friends,

The president of Pardus User Association Nihad Karsli has announced some news about Anka today.

Hier is the original text: http://www.ozgurlukicin.org/forum/duyurular-haberler/24703/?page=1#post166174

My translation:

I do not know where to start. I'll just write what happened and what should we do later. You can comment and we can discuss.

You know we've started the Anka Project and studies, while we were waiting for the official team and announcements.

However after facing the last situation, we have decided not to wait anymore for official stuff and act. We made a variety of research and initiatives for Pardus.

What are they? They've been telling us, that PiSi is deficient. These deficiencies of PiSi are supposed to be written by someone to make it adequate. So we thought it is pointless to expect this by TUBITAK. This was needed to be written by someone who has good knowledge and understanding in this branch. But will the problem be solved if we start to make more Pisi packages- NO. It is very clear that other problems will occur by the time. And as PKD (Pardus user association) we do not have enough power to fight against all these problems. So we've started to talk to our friends and ask for some help. Two of them were BMO(Computer scientists chamber) and EMO(Electric engineers chamber) They told us that they would gladly support us. Because of the establishment phases of BMO we've agreed with EMO. EMO agreed to give us software, workpower, DVDs, brochures to support as institution and be our sponsor for the ANKA project.

What else we needed? The server. Thanks to LKD (Linux users association) they've been supporting us in various things since our establishment and we were sure that they will stand with us for anka. Indeed they gave us before 3 separate virtual server and now they will transfer one of these server to new and beautiful one. So lkd is our sponsor for server and all other things.

Our 3. supporter is the ABBK (informatics board of Ankara bar association). They will help us in forensic branches like licensing.

There are now three supporters of Anka LKD, EMO and ABBK.

So how are we going to do that?

The old pardus maestros will develop our new system on the server of LKD and try to train new developers.

As a google project our projects will be listed and opened for the free software community for bidding and voting. The labor will be rewarded with money or prize.

To be able to give money or prize we will get the support of EMO and also be able to become donations.

So you can ask new where is the roadmap? You all will be able to watch all the work we are doing. Everything will be open and clear.

President of Pardus Users Association.
Nihad Karslı

I hope that anka project will success.

Thanks for the translation.  I still don't understand what is an adequate deficiency !?

Are they willing to develop PiSi or replace it ?

@Phix
No problem. Your welcome.

TUBITAK decided to go on with deb packages but the community and the associations want to go on with Pisi. Some are said that pisi is not so good and such things. But it is bullshit. I do not know and i do not have an information about it but I think anka will be a fork of pardus and independent of TUBITAK and go on with pisi.

Keeping Pardus alive as a desktop distro will help Linux to defeat Windows. This is the real war!

I don´t agree.it is not about LInux vs. MS or Apple. It is about free software vs.propriety.Linux is just kernel witch can be replaced with Hurd or something else, but important thing is to bring more free software to the people. If Pardus (or any fork of it) help to give popularity to free software I´ll be glad.

Hello Zvacet,

In one point you are right but on the other hand if your software is not good and strong enough for end user, you are not able to be free. Think that most of the people still dependent on MS office. For operating system part I have no doubt about linux. But for me the weakest Part is office and e-mail client side.

Currently I am working for international Telecom company and I need to use windows on top of ANKA GNU Linux. Why? Because there is no outlook for Linux. Do not tell me Evolution it is not good. I need calendar, I need groupware etc. But the rest I am using linux.

To be free you need to be strong. Really!.

I understand your concerns but we need to see also behind of mirror.

Many thanks for reading and listening me.

Forever Linux.

What about this?

If you want to say that free software need to be better and more advanced I agree. But right now there are countries witch switched to free software. So it is not that bad as it looks. We all know that can be better and there is still work to do,but that is also reason to support it right now.
