Replacement for Pardus: PCLinuxOS

I don't want start a flame-war. I've only reported my experience with the mageia team and with pclinuxos one.

This ^^^ also is valid for me.
And thus my experience with my current PClinuxOS experiment using  pclinuxos-kde-2012.08.iso
At this moment I have problems with Virtualbox +WinXP
WinXp stalls at the beginning while loading it's settings with a continues ~55% CPU load.
Mageia didn't have any problem with Virtualbox +WinXP.
Investigation continues.........

Also a new installation of WinXP or using an existing .vdi (which is 100% in Pardus/Mageia) gives the same result.

I guess I have found the cause of the VB problem
The final answer will come tomorrow after I have cloned my HDD to another HDD with the help of Clonezilla.
This will take ~ 10 hours and will thus take the whole night

Forgot to report that the problem is caused by the Audio setting in VB.
Solved after modifying Audiocontroller: ICH AC97 > Soundblaster 16

PCLOS has now taken over the first position as my Pardus replacement.
Also created Wiki > HOWTO's >
Transferring email messages and account settings from KMail KDE 4.6 (Pardus) to Kmail2 KDE 4.8 (PCLinuxOS)

Did you allready look at ROSA 2012? I find this distro great.
The live and install is maybe slow, but once installed it is
very, very fast.

But I never get PCLinuxOS Live CD running. Every time it stops at the moment searching USB (something).
It is the only Distro where I get this. So never get the change to test it.

I've already tried PCLOS a year ago but I was not so enthusiastic about!

Currently , I'm looking at distros that are using Pardus technology ( as a theme ).
Best that I can tell , that would be Chakra ( Plymouth ), and SolusOs ( Pisi ). If this continues , we may have to name change this site to "Pisi World Forum" and then we can tell all the other distros "pisi on them "

SolusOs , at least is stable , has a good community , and it installed easily on a machine with only .5 Gig memory. This is early days , so I haven't found any show stoppers.,,,,,,,,yet.

I guess that is just what Pardus is for me, a show stopper.  I have Poca Mandriva Russian version installed, but I rarely log into it.  My first experience with Mandriva based OS and nothing against Poca, (their forum is quick to help you with a problem) but more a critique of Mandriva:   When you compare 'pisi history' verses 'rpm -qa --last | less', output if package upgrading/updating history,  pisi history is easier to read and shows previous version replaced by new version.  More informative.

anglo, I'm surprised you haven't tried Snowflake.  It is Debian-based, maybe that is why, but it implements the I17 desktop. 

I've eyed an os called AV Linux for folks that do a lot of audio and video work.  Still using Pardus, Pardus original on one partiton and Pardus Anka on another.

Atolboo what are the pros against Mageia?

The margin of Pclos over Mageia is very small.
There KDE implementation is slightly better.
And there implementation of the Control Center also.
Flash is installed by default and google-earth and picasa-3.9.0 can be installed through Synaptic.
Packages in the repo are packed with better support/details.
Examples:
You can install the latest VB with the 'Get Oracle VM Virtualbox' script and it does also installs the extension pack automatically with it.
Kdenlive automatically comes with the XVid4 .avi rendering option.
Of course there will there will be exceptions with respect to packages.
There reaction to problems here , here , here and here is outstanding compared to Mageia here.
There is still a problem with automatic resolution detection of my HP LP2475w monitor.
As that can be set manually, it's not a show stopper.

SolusOs: I miss KDE there and is still very young.
Chakra: My experience is that it's rather unstable with there packages and still very young.
Sabayon Linux: Uses Gentoo testing and how stable is that.

I never got that problem and you can also test there reaction to your problem.

I can understand trying other distro's, but as a Pardus Replacement 

what I'm trying to say is, do you all think that Anka is going to be a no show? Why not just wait and see, if it's no were on the horizon, then shop for other distro's.

Are you writing Anka off? If so then why?

Well my consideration is as follows.

As there is no active Pardus now for 9 moths, the rent for the server of pardususer.de has already been cancelled and it will stop by the end of December 2012.
This means that the very minimum support for Pardus is impossible after that time.
And I want to be prepared when that point is reached.
