I am trying to avoid having to run an update that might be 500 MB or more.

Ah I see  Grin
(they should stop maing newer and newer and newer, once installed it is already outdated....drives one crazy  Grin Grin Grin )

But having used the 12.2 installation DVD I do not have the impression that I had to update 500MB afterwards (however I admit sometimes it is hard to remember what (amount of packages) was updated once you start an update)
