i hava an MGA G400 graficcard.
for a day i tried an ATI Rage GC. i installed the ATI driver with tasma-pisi bu the results didnt satisfy me so i removed the ATI GC an pluged the MGA GC in the PC again. i restored th e xorg.conf file and everything works fine till i removed the ATI Drivers with tasma pisi.
after removing some grafic programs didnt run e.g mplayer, crack attack. after installing ATI driver again everything works fine again.
even i did not use a ati graficcard.

I'm not very sure about this, but maybe google earth needs 3d acceleration which it got from the ati drivers. Since you are using a matrox card you could try installing the latest matrox linux drivers for your card:

http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/corpo/support/drivers/driverInfo.php?id=143

If you need more help feel free to post at the forum,

Regards,

Ben

hi ben,

i tried to install this newest mga driver before,  but i was not able.

my problem in this post was that the deinstllation of ati drivers worked not properly.
i had better postet this in bug report.
as i read otherone  in this forum had the same problem with ati driver removing.

my problem i solved with cash$ method:
i bought a new graficcard nvidia fx5200 (37euro) which i wanted to do since 6 month. and i am very satisfied with this card.

the matrox card (i bought for 5euro - 2nd hand) was very good (colors, sharpness ....) but to old (slow). i dont know if the 3d options where enabled or not wiht the pardus drivers.

i know that the matrox card worked under XP properly but very slow too. in pardus there was under googleearth a redraw problem.
maybe i will use the matrox for a other system in future...
