I just installed X for the 3rd time. This seems to be quite normal. But it would be pleasant to be able to backup the personal settings of the programs that are being used.
In Windows XP is "Docs&settings" a very usefull map for a backup.
I expect a similar or possibly a better way in X for this purpose.
Can anyone tell me how to do this? (Mind you, I am an early apprentice and would appreciate some detail instructions).

All your personal settings are saved in your home directory. Back this up to a medium or directory of your choice and you'll be all set.
