Hello there,

After downloading a tarball package what is the default place to unzip?

Windows has the 'Program Files' folder and MAC OS X has the 'Applications' folder.

Now I have unzipped the tarball package to the 'Home' folder but I don't know whether or not this is correctly?

Thanks!

RDNZL, you could use the directory /usr/local/src to extract tarballs, oder you could create a special subdir in your home directory. There isn't really a "hard coded" standard for this.

The configure, make & make install commands will take care of putting the compiled binaries where they belong ;-)
